Aviation English Teacher Training Courses
Introduction
This course prepares qualified EFL/ESL teachers to develop and deliver courses in Aviation English with exclusive understanding of the aviation world and its unique communicative demands by blending theory and practice in lesson planning for aviation language classrooms.
Aim
To equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to address language needs for Aviation English students.
Entry Requirements
To enter this course, participants are required to have:
- TEFL Certificate or higher (proof required)
Course Objectives
By the end of the course participants will have:
- an overview of Aviation English as an ESP
- an introductory idea of methodologies, technologies and resources available to teachers
- a practical introduction to lesson and syllabus planning for the aviation community
- a practical introduction to assessing against the ICAO rating scale for placement purposes
- an in-depth and practical understanding of aviation and the role of English in aviation
Course Duration
The course includes:
- 26 hours in class theory of methodology in AE teaching
- 20 hours self study (project based with comprehension checks)
- 6 hours practical teaching with senior instructor observing
- 8 hours aviation orientation (theory and practical)

Section 1: All about Aviation English-an introduction (Theory)
Section 2: Developing Materials for Teaching and Assessing Aviation Technical English (Theory and
Practical)
Section 3: The Aviation in Aviation English (Theory and Practical)
This course, exclusive to Plane English with Alitalia, is a personal course of preparation for proficiency tests.
The course includes a three-hour session of preparation in
- complex structures
- controlling basic structures
- listening comprehension
- speaking practice specifically needed for proficiency testing
- vocabulary
- fluency practice
- pronunciation

Cost: €100 for one 3-hour session.
Note: Plane English adheres strictly to AMC No. 2 to JAR FCL 1.010.13 which states: Assessors should not test applicants to whom they have given language training.

Aviation Language Course for Air Transport Pilots and Air Traffic Control Operators
This Aviation English course offered is an aviation language based course for licensed air transport pilots and licensed Air Traffic Control Operators.
Course Objective:
This course helps licensed pilots and ATCOs reach Aviation English level 4 in all linguistic areas listed on the ICAO rating scale (see below) by consolidating existing English language skills the listening and speaking skills required to satisfy level 4 fluency.
Entry Requirements
To enter this course, participants are required to have:
- achieved an IELTS 3.5 or equivalent within the last six months; OR
- achieve the appropriate result (at least level 3 in all 6 linguistic areas) on an CAA approved test within the last six months.
Course Structure and Delivery
Our course is a content based course structured through curricula using text books and audio. Course books are included in the price of the tuition.
The course is instructor-led delivered through classroom lessons and self study. Courses are held by qualified language instructors with Aviation English Technical Teaching instruction or teams of qualified TEFL teachers and subject matter experts participating in at least 20% of the course. All courses and instructors are approved through ENAC.
